How does a chimney sweep and service visit work?

I'll email you ahead of the visit, arrive with dust sheets, sweep or service the appliance thoroughly, and send a written report afterwards explaining what was found and any recommendations.

Do you give a fixed quote?

Yes, I'll always give you a clear price before starting work, and explain any recommended maintenance before carrying it out, with no hard sell.

Are you certified and insured?

Yes, I'm HETAS certified for sweeping and servicing solid fuel appliances, and every job is covered by insurance for your peace of mind.

How long does a sweep or service take?

A standard sweep usually takes under an hour per appliance, while servicing or repairs can take a little longer depending on what's needed.

How do I know if there's a real problem with my chimney?

I carry out camera inspections where needed to check the flue properly, and I'll always explain exactly what I've found rather than just telling you it's fine.

What areas do you cover?

I cover Spalding and the surrounding villages including Pinchbeck, Weston, Holbeach, Long Sutton and Crowland.

Servicing means taking the stove apart enough to see what's actually going on: door seals, glass rope, baffle plate, fire bricks and the grate. Worn seals let air in where it shouldn't and make the stove burn less efficiently, so I check these every time and replace what's gone. The flue connection and any stove pipe get checked too, since that's often where problems start.

If something needs doing I'll explain why in plain terms, whether it's a seal on its way out or a baffle plate that's cracked, and there's no pressure to say yes on the spot. Plenty of stoves just need a clean and a seal replaced to see them through another winter.

What's included

Rope seals and glass rope checked
Door seals and glass gaskets replaced
Baffle plates and fire bricks inspected
Grate and riddling mechanism checked

Maintenance recommended only when needed

We chose Brett after getting a couple of quoted for the inspection of chimney, sweeping of two and servicing of two wood burning stoves. Brett stood out from the very first communication. We picked, even though he wasn't the cheapest and I'm glad we did. Brett was extremely dilligent and thorough from the moment he arrived. He was respectful of our home, left not a speck of dust or soot and was both knowledgable and enthusiastic. He recommend a couple of maintence jobs on our stoves, without any hsrd sell, and carried them out with skill. You may have to wait a little longer for Brett, so book in early. You'll be glad you did.

Fantastic service, very reasonably priced and went above and beyond! the whole inside or our new house needs ripping out and replacing and brett still had the same level of care as if it was a recently refurbished place! Also took the time to reassure my wife who suffers with anxiety that burners are safe and explain why! couldn't recommend bretburn any higher! Cheers, see you when it's time for a sweep!

Very impressed with the service provided. From the email notifications prior to arrival. To the professional professionalism and care taken around the house. Brett swept three chimneys for us, two of them were a mess and disaster however Brett has left the area clean as a whistle. Looking forward to Lighting the fires. Brett’s Visit with swiftly followed by a report again via email.
