Chimney Sweeping in Spalding
Rods and brushes through the flue on open fires, log burners, multifuel stoves and inglenooks, dust sheets down throughout.
What's included
- Full sweep of flue and chimney breast
- Dust sheets down before starting
- Soot and debris removed from site
- Smoke or draw test after sweeping
- Written report emailed after the visit
- Advice on sweep frequency for your appliance
I sweep the flue with rods and the right brush for the appliance, working from the fireplace or stove up through the chimney to clear soot, tar deposits and any blockages. Dust sheets go down first and stay down until I'm packed up, so nothing gets tracked through the house. Open fires, log burners, multifuel stoves and inglenooks are all swept the same careful way, adjusted for how each one is built.
Once the sweep is done I check the draw is right and email a report setting out what I found and what I did, including anything worth keeping an eye on. If I spot a problem while I'm up there, whether it's a cracked pot or a bird's nest starting, I'll tell you before I leave rather than after.

Stove Servicing & Repairs in Spalding
Log burners and multifuel stoves stripped down, checked over and repaired, with what actually needs doing explained plainly.
What's included
- Rope seals and glass rope checked
- Door seals and glass gaskets replaced
- Baffle plates and fire bricks inspected
- Grate and riddling mechanism checked
- Flue connections and stove pipe checked
- Maintenance recommended only when needed
Servicing means taking the stove apart enough to see what's actually going on: door seals, glass rope, baffle plate, fire bricks and the grate. Worn seals let air in where it shouldn't and make the stove burn less efficiently, so I check these every time and replace what's gone. The flue connection and any stove pipe get checked too, since that's often where problems start.
If something needs doing I'll explain why in plain terms, whether it's a seal on its way out or a baffle plate that's cracked, and there's no pressure to say yes on the spot. Plenty of stoves just need a clean and a seal replaced to see them through another winter.

Chimney Camera Inspections in Spalding
A camera run up the flue to check it's sound, including before a new stove or fire goes in.
What's included
- Camera survey of the full flue length
- Check for cracks, blockages or debris
- Pre-install inspection before a new stove
- Footage reviewed on site
- Findings included in the written report
- Advice on any remedial work needed
A camera inspection lets me see the actual condition of the flue rather than guessing from the outside, checking for cracks, obstructions, old debris or anything else that shouldn't be there. It's the same process whether you're having a routine check or getting ready to install a new stove or fire, where I need to know the flue is sound before anything goes in.
I go through what the camera picks up while I'm still on site, then set it all out in the written report afterwards. If the flue needs relining or repair before an install can go ahead, I'll tell you exactly what I've seen and why it matters.

Bird's Nest Removal in Spalding
Nests cleared safely from chimneys and flues, with a guard fitted after so it doesn't happen again.
What's included
- Safe removal of nest and debris
- Flue checked clear after removal
- Sweep carried out if soot buildup found
- Bird guard fitted to stop it recurring
- Advice on the right guard for your chimney
- Written report after the visit
Birds nesting in an unused or capped chimney is a common reason for a blocked flue, and it needs clearing properly before anything can be lit safely. I remove the nest and any debris that's come down with it, then check the flue is clear the whole way through.
Once it's out, I fit a bird guard suited to the chimney so the problem doesn't come straight back next season. If there's a build-up of soot alongside the nest I'll sweep at the same visit rather than asking you to book twice.

Bird Guard & Cowl Fitting in Spalding
Guards and downdraft cowls supplied and fitted to keep chimneys protected and drawing properly.
What's included
- Bird guard supplied and fitted
- Downdraft cowl supplied and fitted
- Guard type matched to chimney pot
- Draw checked after fitting
- Fixing checked secure in all weathers
- Written report after the visit
Bird guards stop nests and debris getting into the flue in the first place, and I fit the type that suits your chimney pot rather than a one-size-fits-all mesh. Downdraft cowls go on where wind is pushing smoke back down the chimney, which is often mistaken for a fault with the stove itself.
After fitting I check the draw is still right and that everything's fixed securely, since a loose guard or cowl causes more problems than it solves. Both jobs are quick and often done alongside a sweep.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm Fitting in Spalding
Carbon monoxide alarms supplied and fitted in the right spot for your solid fuel appliance.
What's included
- Alarm supplied and fitted
- Positioned correctly for the appliance
- Tested working before I leave
- Advice on battery checks and testing
- Can be fitted alongside a sweep or service
- Written report after the visit
A carbon monoxide alarm is a straightforward bit of extra protection alongside a solid fuel appliance, and I fit it in the position where it'll actually pick up a problem rather than just wherever's convenient. It gets tested before I leave so you know it's working.
This is usually done at the same time as a sweep or service, so there's no extra visit needed. If you already have one and just want it checked or repositioned, I can do that too.
