A block paved driveway starts underground. I dig out to the right depth, put down and compact a proper sub-base, then build up with the correct laying course so the surface doesn't move or sink later. Blocks are laid tight, cut in around edges and manholes, then compacted with a plate vibrator.
Once the blocks are down I brush in jointing sand and go over the whole area again to lock everything in place. Edges are finished with a solid restraint so the driveway keeps its line for years, not just the first winter. Old surfaces are broken out and taken away as part of the job, so you're not left with rubble to deal with.
Resin Bound Driveways in Derby

Resin bound work depends on what's underneath it, so I check the existing base is stable before anything goes down, if it isn't, that gets sorted first. The resin and aggregate are mixed together and laid by hand, then trowelled off level so the finish is smooth and even across the whole driveway.
Because the stone is bound into the resin rather than loose on top, it stays put and doesn't migrate onto the lawn or into the house. It's a straightforward surface to keep looking good, and I take the same care over the edges and borders as the main area so the whole job looks finished, not just laid.

Patterned concrete is poured, coloured and then stamped while it's still workable, so the pattern and texture are pressed right into the surface rather than sitting on top. Getting the timing right matters, too early and the pattern won't hold, too late and it won't take at all, so I work to the concrete, not the clock.
Once it's cured I seal the surface, which protects the colour and makes it easier to keep clean. I've laid patterned concrete for patios and full garden areas, and take the same care over edges and joints as the main pour so it reads as one finished surface.
Fencing in Derby

Fencing goes wrong when the posts move, so I set every post properly in concrete before anything else goes up. Panels or feather board are then fitted level and square, with gravel boards along the bottom to keep timber off the wet ground and stop it rotting early.
Where a garden needs a gate as well as a boundary fence, that's fitted and hung as part of the same job so it all lines up. Old fencing is taken down and removed, so you're left with a finished boundary and nothing to clear away yourself.

Tiling starts with the surface, not the tiles, walls and floors are checked and levelled first so the finished job sits flat rather than following an uneven wall. I set the tiling out before fixing anything, so cuts fall in sensible places and the pattern lines up around the room, not just from one corner.
Cuts around sockets, pipes and fittings are done properly rather than covered up, and everything is grouted and silicone sealed once fixed. I've done full bathroom retiles as well as floor tiling on its own, working the same way whichever it is.
